How to Control Your Emotions - Changing the Game
You might remember the movie Titanic and the great drama that ensued after the boat hit the iceberg. Most people think of their relationships as mini-Titanics when conflict or disagreement occurs. They run around trying to find the exit from a ship that simply is going down.
The old ship is broken. Finding out whose fault it is, getting to be right for a moment, controlling feelings in you and others, suppressing what you really want to do, has visible, devastating results. Just look around. Blame isn’t making anything better, because blame isn’t the same as taking healthy responsibility and making different choices and agreements. Controlling others isn’t working; people just rebel and dig their heels in or fight back. Concealing, well, simply tally the cost to lives and happiness of the various public figures caught in the concealing game just in the last few months.
The choice you can make that has the biggest impact on your close relationships is to embark on a different ship, one that sails the ocean of essence and navigates with appreciation, authenticity, wonder and full-out creative expression. Our books and videos describe a reliable new game, one that expands your ability to give and receive more positive energy every day. You can create a life and relationships where the big task is how to support each other’s creative purpose, that is, finding and practicing what you most love to do.
A colleague of ours made a film several years ago where cultural and spiritual leaders from around the world were interviewed about the state of the planet and what could be done to shift directions. Here’s big conclusion that the filmmaker discovered. Change happens one relationship at a time. Your interactions with family, friends and colleagues make a difference. Your choice to say something authentic, to genuinely appreciate, to claim your responsibility for what is happening, to listen with curiosity, they matter.
Where will you start?
