Here follows the strange tale of the sharp pencil and the happy idiot and other lessons we can learn from each other.

Scene One: Meet someone deliciously different, get into relationship and then start trying to change him/her. What follows in Scene Two: many rounds of control and power struggles leading to the Conclusion: either apologies and promises to do better (which reverts to Scene Two again) or spiritual/actual divorce/dissolution.

If you’d like to create a new story, read on.

Scene One: Get into relationship, appreciate the differences and see what you can learn from each other. Scene Two: Shift again and again from blame to wonder. Conclusion: Rekindle romance, enjoy expanding, discovering and co-creating with each other.

Here are some other Opposites That Find Each Other:

  • Neatnik and Slob
  • Tightwad and Spendthrift
  • Planner and Go With The Flow
  • Thinker and Feeler
  • Always on Time-Never on Time

What The Sharp Pencil and Happy Idiot Can Learn From Each Other: •The Sharp Pencil can learn to relax, go with the flow, open to the creative possibilities of loosening control.
•The Happy Idiot can learn to make and keep agreements, feeling the aliveness that comes from doing what you say you’re going to do.

Neatnik and Slob:
• The Neatnik can open to seeing the person, not the mess. Creativity is messy and can always be straightened up, but the moment of connection is irreplaceable.
• The Slob can learn to experience the feeling of spaciousness that comes from creating and living in the midst of order.

Tightwad and Spendthrift:
• The Tightwad can learn to enjoy the wealth of expanding into experience.
• The Spendthrift can learn to plan and prioritize choices for maximum impact and enjoyment.

Planner and Go With The Flow:
• The Planner can learn to flow with the moment and improvise from what’s available right now.
• Go With The Flow can learn to appreciate all the goodies the planner has brought along (e.g., books, flashlights, insect repellant).

Thinker and Feeler:
• The Thinker can learn to juice up his/her logic, to savor the sensory aliveness of feeling and connecting from heart and body.
• The Feeler can learn to articulate sensory experience to make an impact, to analyze and to take the best of the experience and blend with other learning experiences.

Always on Time-Never on Time:
• Always can learn flexibility.
• Never can learn to make and keep agreements.

All these opposites can continue learning together by sharing our courses and activities. What are the opposites in your close relationships, and what can you learn from your partner/friend/colleague?
