Starting the Day with a Wonder Question
Starting The Day With A Wonder Question
Several years ago I began adding wonder to my morning practice of stretching and meditating. Rather than ride along on the automatic thought stream, I began dropping wonder pebbles into the flow and letting expanded possibility spread out through the day. Here are some of my favorites.
• What choices can I make that will allow me to be happy all the time?
• How can I express gratitude today?
• How can I live moment to moment in a state of radiant health?
• What can I learn today that will benefit everyone?
Notice that none of these questions contain “why,” a real wonder-killer. They all invite discovery and celebrate connection. I invite you to invent a few wonder questions rather than complaints or worry. You can change your complaints into wonder questions by starting a sentence, “How can I…” and fill in the rest of the sentence with what you WANT rather than what you don’t want. For example, instead of, “Why don’t I feel more loved?” You can create a new question: “How can I create loving connection today?” Willingness and wonder open the gates to big pastures of play.
