Vinegar in the Refrigerator
Vinegar in the Refrigerator
I was cooking brunch with a friend yesterday. When it came time to drain the bacon fat, she started looking for a can. There were no cans.
I suggested using a bowl instead. We had lots of those, "Plus," I remarked, "Bowls are much easier to clean." I knew exactly what was going on... her mother had put the bacon fat in a can, and so that is what she does too. The difference is that back in the day, cans got thrown in the garbage, fat notwithstanding. Now we recycle so my friend would have poured the fat into an old sharp can, then had to clean it out in order to recycle it.
That occurence reminded me of another friend who kept her vinegar in the fridge. Turns out her mom did too. When she finally asked her mom about the vinegar in the fridge, her mom explained that she started doing that because she didn't have room in the cupboard.
So now I'm curious... what are those things that I do simply because I learned them from my mom? And more importantly, what might happen if I chose to act consciously, free of programming?
Which brings me to parenting....As an awake parent, I already have made may decisions free of my familial programming. And yet, I sense there is a whole other layer to dive into.
Do you have any stories to share in this regard? Stay tuned... my curious investigation commences!
