"I consider Gay and Kathlyn to be my teachers." -John Bradshaw
What Every Parent Wants (Or at least I Do!)
What Every Parent Wants (Or at least I Do!)
Silence. Golden Silence. Time and Space to BE. Reflection. Completion.... I started making a list of all the things I want to create more of in this new year, and I immediately started to feel overwhelmed! So much I want, so little time...
Aha! I hear myself complaining about: time and shortage, and immediately I know that this is a problem I know how to resolve. Gay Hendricks wrote about how to create more time in his newest book: "The Big Leap." I highly recommend reading the book, and I'll let you know what I did to immediately resolve the time shortage problem for me.
I've learned that when I'm seeing 'time' as scarce, I've usually got the busy hamster running the wheel in my brain. The moment I calm this hamster down, I find more time easily. So I meditate.
Now, before child, I meditated at least 1 hour a day, and I was quite righteous about it. Today, I savour 10 minutes in the morning. And another 10 minutes mid-day. When I treat myself to those short but powerful breaks, I relax, create more time, and have more fun.
When I miss them, I start to wind up again. And faster. And more wound up.
SO this morning, I awoke 10 minutes early. I got up and meditated.
Sweet relief.
In my post-meditation bliss, I realized that there is no urgency to my "New Year's List of Wants". Today I meditate. 10 minutes of glorious time for me. Time and Space. Good enough, and for now, I've got what I wanted.
How do you create time and space for you?
