Crazy People

Crazy People

Katie Hendricks once gave me valuable advice:  Don't argue with crazy people.  I had a great opportunity to put this into practice last night.

The short story:  I tried to add a 'friend' on Facebook -- someone I worked with about 7 years ago, for 4 years.  She sent me a really rude reply... something to the effect of: "why?  we were never friends... you tried to get me in shit several times."

I stopped breathing and started wracking my brain trying to come up with a reason for her blunt refusal, and wondering what the heck she was talking about.  So I composed a brief message that asked her essentially to tell me more, and described four happy memories I have of special moments we had.

She replied quickly that I had ganged up with four other people to get her fired when she was a single mom... etc.

Now, I have absolutely no memory of this event.  It could be true, but I recognized that any defense on my part was entering into a shaky drama with someone who 7 years later blames me for getting fired.  Eeeeeeek.

There was the 'crazy person' warning.  I'm so used to living in a world where people take responsibility for their life that hearing someone blame others for being fired is foreign to me.

I sent her a "thanks for letting me know email", AGREEING with her that I wouldn't want to be friends with someone who I thought got me fired.

I feel happy and free again, I wish her the very best, AND I'm so pleased that I didn't try to argue with a 'crazy person' this time.  Saved myself LOTS of drama and burned energy!

Any 'crazy people' you could stop argueing with today?
